The Banjul City Council, through its "SAHAL SETT INITIATIVE", donated ten (10) trash bins to ministries located at The Quadrangle, Banjul. The initiative is part of the Waste Management Component of the City Link Banjul-Oostende EU-funded project. The materials were received by the Senior Management of the Personnel Management Office (PMO) on behalf of institutions based at The Quadrangle.
The Public Relations Officer of Banjul City Council, Mr. Modou Lamin Bah, said that the initiative is geared towards achieving waste separation, developing a waste management plan that will clearly show how waste separation is going to be achieved and to further make the City of Banjul one of the cleanest cities in Africa.
The project extended to The Quadrangle is aimed at providing proper and efficient trash management for a cleaner working environment.
He added that the ten (10) trash bins donated will be distributed to ministries at The Quadrangle and also urged the beneficiaries to take ownership of the items in order to actualize its intended purpose.
In receiving the items, Mr. Musa Cham, the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policies and Programs) at the PMO, said this initiative will in no small measure complement government's efforts in attaining a safe and clean environment for a healthy living.
Mr. Cham added that recycling is among the most effective means through which solid waste can be reduced and natural resources can be conserved by reusing materials and putting them back into productive use.
In his closing remarks, Mustapha M.B. Nyabally, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Finance and Administration) at the PMO, commended the Banjul City Council for their enormous contribution in ensuring that ministries in The Quadrangle have proper trash management materials.
He concluded by saying that the donation is timely and promised that the donated materials will be utilized for it intended purposes, in order to address the waste management challenges facing the Quadrangle.
